USDA provides one-time extension of deadline to update base acres or yield history for ARC/PLC programs

TIFTON, Ga. — Today Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a one-time extension will be provided to producers for the new safety-net programs established by the 2014 Farm Bill, known as Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC). The final day to update yield history or reallocate base acres has been extended one additional month, from Feb. 27, 2015 until March 31, 2015. The final day for farm owners and producers to choose ARC or PLC coverage also remains March 31, 2015.

Georgia PB&J Day set for Tuesday at State Capitol

TIFTON, Ga. — March is National Peanut Month, a time to celebrate one of America’s favorite foods! The Georgia peanut industry plans to celebrate by hosting the 2015 Georgia PB&J Day at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia. The event kicks off Tuesday morning March 3, 2015, and will be held in the south wing of the Capitol from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The peanut industry will have plenty of PB&J’s, grilled PB&J’s, country-fried peanuts, boiled peanuts and more.

Southern Peanut Farmers Federation praises USDA for 2014 Farm Bill implementation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Southern Peanut Farmers Federation (SPFF) praised USDA for their implementation of the farm bill in a timely manner during the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Hearing, Feb. 24, 2015, in Washington, D.C. Ronnie Lee, farmer from Bronwood, Georgia, provided testimony on behalf of the SPFF and the National Cotton Council.

Georgia Peanut Commission Research Report Day set for February 11

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission will hold the annual Research Report Day, Feb. 11, 2015, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the National Environmentally Sound Production Agriculture Laboratory (NESPAL), located on the University of Georgia Tifton campus at 2360 Rainwater Road, Tifton, Ga. 31793. The event provides growers and industry representatives an opportunity to hear the latest reports and newest information available on peanut research projects funded by GPC in 2014.

TIFTON, Ga. — More than 2,100 attendees were able to fine-tune their farming operations with information gained at the 39th Annual Georgia Peanut Farm Show and Conference on Jan. 15, 2015, at the University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center in Tifton, Ga. The show is sponsored by the Georgia Peanut Commission in cooperation with the University of Georgia Tifton Campus and the Southeastern Peanut Farmer.

Georgia peanut farmers and sheller representatives participate in session one of Peanut Leadership Academy

TIFTON, Ga. — Twenty-two peanut growers and sheller representatives from across the Southeast, Texas, North Carolina and Virginia began Class IX of the Peanut Leadership Academy hosted by the Southern Peanut Farmers Federation Dec. 15-17, 2014, in Panama City Beach, Florida. During the first session of the program, leadership academy attendees were introduced to one another, presented an overview of the peanut industry and attended the Southern Peanut Farmers Federation annual meeting where they had the opportunity to listen to grower and industry reports.

Georgia Peanut Commission seeks National Peanut Board nominees

TIFTON, Ga. — The Georgia Peanut Commission seeks eligible peanut producers who are interested in serving on the National Peanut Board. The Georgia Peanut Commission will hold a nominations election to select two nominees each for member and alternate to the National Peanut Board during a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. at the UGA NESPAL Seminar Room in Tifton, Georgia. All eligible peanut producers are encouraged to participate. Eligible producers are those who are engaged in the production and sale of peanuts and who own or share the ownership and risk of loss of the crop.
